Finishing production

Image
For this week, I am continuing with the  Player Agency And Interactive Narrative group project. With this week, I’ve done a lot of researching regarding the topic that I’ve done some research on this would be the amount of content that the publishers keep adding to the game with such a ridiculous price that has been added to it or the games that are free but come with such a cost due to the cosmetics that come with itself. For this, I will discuss the things I’ve researched of what I found out below. Source DLC: which stands for downloadable content, is extra content that has been added to the game itself. Before, it wasn’t usually wrong. At the start of the cycle, the pricing on DLCs was low, around usually €15 to €20, which was okay, and the content was good with new activities added to the game. But as years would pass, the DLCs would become so expensive that even their price tag would be higher than the game itself. The cost of the game is around €70 or higher depending on wha...

Starting Out

Image
The project group task that I’m currently working on is focusing on how gaming has changed over the years with the introduction of monetisation in gaming. It means that now in gaming, there is a lot of actual money spent on video games themselves. Spending real money on cosmetics items don’t boost you at the game at all.  Source For this project, my group all have different roles to play. The amount of people that are in my group is four people. Their names are Cian, Harry, Anthony and finally me. The name of our project that we are focusing on is Player Agency and Interactive Narrative. What Player agency is about giving players the ability to affect and change the game world through the agency. The player would have the power to influence and change what would be happening in the game as it would provide them control on what would happen next.   For this, we are looking at different ideas that are related to our topic that we have to focus on this could be PC games, Console ...

Another revision

For this week, for the reading task, I had to go back and touch up some of the feedback that I’ve posted on the blogs of the people that I’ve had to review—making some improvements on them or what lessons that I can use on my following peer review. However, I’m going, be honest. I didn’t change much with my blog post, mainly because of the excellent feedback, and I thought it was good. I mean, probably there were a few things that needed to be tidied up a bit. Below are the changes that I’ve made:  Change 1 For this, I had wanted to add more bullet points to my blog. When I first looked at the blog, I noticed that there were not many bullet points, just two bullet points which are okay. I needed to fix that and get more of my thoughts in the blog itself on the three videos that I reviewed.  Change 2 For the second change, I wanted to focus on the layout itself. What I mean by that is to have the text justified to make it tidier, and it looks very well spaced out, which I will ...

Rewrite #2

Image
For this reading week i have to rewrite a post that many people that have commented on from the post that I’ve done which was called Media ethics. It was a post that I’ve posted which gained a few feedback from it.  Most of the feedback that i was given was very positive feedback which i like i find that it says I’m doing well with these blogposts that I’ve posted so I’m glad with that. However i did notice someone pointed something out about my thoughts on the blog itself. One of them said that i should expand on my thoughts which probably was a good idea to do, that way it expands my thoughts more on the blog post itself.  The Changes For the changes itself what i did was i expended my thoughts on the 3 videos that i have done. I just added three more bullet points to my thoughts section basically going over the fact how we are lucky to be surrounded with a lot of technology, making our lives easier then the people before us and finally finding things easier than before inst...

Media Compression

Image
This week for the video task, I had to watch a few videos on media compression. I’m going to review these videos and share my thoughts on them and describe what media compression is in my own words.  Source Video 1- Video Compression as Fast as Possible  The first video that I watched was a video going into detail on what video compression is. Video streaming websites like Netflix, Hulu and YouTube use video compression. If there weren’t any video compression at all on these sites, then you would not be able to stream videos in a high-quality state. There are two known ways to compress video they are known as: Spatial Compression or intraframe uses a .jpeg format and is only used on an individual video frame. This process can be used on a jpeg image; jpeg stands for Joint Photographic Experts Group. When a jpeg is created, the colour information is reduced in a known process called Chroma Subsampling which then the image is then split into sections of 8x8 pixels that are known...

Technological Evolution

Image
For this, I will be watching some videos detailing the history of digital media and what’s so different from before and today. In this review, I will be sharing my thoughts and how I feel about it.  Source Technology Evolution  The first video that I have watched is a video that goes through a million years detailing the evolution of technology itself. The video starts by going back millions of years ago, introducing the first tools that humans have first used, which are from wood, stone, animal body parts like antlers and bones. Aside from that, it goes through a Timelapse of everything that humans have discovered or have invented things we now use today. The list of things they have made is pretty long but incredible, and it's incredible to think about all the things they have discovered. The list is Fire 1-2 million years ago by humans  Wheel 3500BC by the Elamite’s  Static Electricity 600BC discovered by Thales of Miletus Hot Air Balloon 500BC-900C Nazca people o...

Peer review #2

This week I had to review two blogs centred around digital media. In this post, I will discuss what I have learned during this reading task week.  This is my second time doing something like this; however, I was told to learn a new way of giving feedback, and this method itself is pretty much summed in five words that form a single word. The word is called SPARK, and the words that created it are: Specific - comments that are to a particular word, phrase and sentence   Prescriptive- it offers a result or technique to improve the task, including possible revisions or links that can be helpful to the resources and examples that are available. Actionable- when the feedback is given to the person that you are reviewing will know what points to take for improvement. Referenced- the feedback promptly references the task standards, requirements or the target skills. Kind- it's  important to remember to have the comments that you are going to post on the blogs that they should be...

Revising writing

This week I had to read some readings detailing how to be good at reading and writing essays. They are listed below, which are Writing strong paragraphs. Paragraph structure This reading mainly focuses on what is a paragraph and how you go on writing one, and what not to put in a paragraph. This can quickly be done by splitting it up into three paragraphs such as the beginning, the middle and the end. A paragraph would usually be around 250 words that would mainly consist of approximately five or six sentences. The beginning section would usually consist of an idea which would have to be the critical information first before anything else and must be explained very clearly before moving onto the second paragraph. It is also known as the topic sentence. The second paragraph would mainly consist of explaining the idea that was first introduced by the topic sentence. Only this time, you would have to provide evidence of the concept and some examples and define why it is relevant. It is al...

Media ethics

Image
For this week, i will be reviewing some videos on Media ethics. Video 1  The first video, it's coming from a YouTube channel called minisode who talks and explain what the medium is the message?. He talks about a quote from understanding media it says “ This is merely to say that the personal and social consequences of any medium - that is, of any extension of ourselves - result from the new scale that is introduced into our affairs by each extension of ourselves…” it is explained in the video that the mediums have a more significant impact on the fundamental shape and nature of society, for example, electric light, car, train and aeroplane have restructured the ideas of what cites would look like day and night. This would also apply to the radio and television as it would help reshape and build our houses. Unfortunately, McLuhan, who had written the quote from earlier, had died in 1980 and had not lived long enough to see the internet today. Still, we can use his selection to test...

Peer Review #1

My thoughts It was probably my first time giving people feedback, something I’m not used to at all like I’m a student. It's more of a lecturer or employees job to provide feedback on your written essays. I have to be honest. It is tough to give feedback to others, especially when it comes to other people around you. It could be challenging to provide negative feedback to people you know, and I find that it is easier to give good feedback if it's good, short and making easier to understand, and that’s my take on that.   Helpful Information   I have been reading some articles that could help and improve when giving feedback. I just had a quick reading of it. Essentially, what it tells you to do is be a mirror. It means “ to reflect what is there without judgement ”. For the qualities of feedback, it is essential to remember the vital growth mindset for feedback.  The first main thing when you are giving feedback is to be specific about what you are describing when providing...
